Last editorial of the continental meetings
June 24th, 2001
"Let
us build new solidarities." "Let us globalize
hopes." "Our power exists." "Citizens
of all countries, let us join our forces and convictions.
These are some of the words that united
the continents these past few days. The meetings have shared
a great diversity in their initiatives and a great unity
in their concerns: the search for collective alternatives
to the present models of the world, the society, and the
human being.
Stroke of a paintbrush: building alternatives
to the neoliberal model (privileging human beings over the
market, an economy at the service of the population), a
new governance, solidarity among peoples and interculturalism,
sustainable development, a culture of peace, a new spirituality
...
The meetings have reaffirmed the collective
determination to work for the emergence of a better world.
After years of joint work, a new collective path is now
open. May the Continental Meetings give us strength to continue
struggling, debating, proposing and, above all, transforming.
Let us continue building a new active world
citizenship through a plural, responsible and united world.
Let us contribute the continental dynamics to the World
Assembly in Lille and define a new common strategic horizon
for the Alliance.
Many other dynamics and movements are consolidating
all over the world, rekindling confidence in that the will
of many can be made to be heard. Let us look for new contacts,
new alliances, let us work jointly with all those who are
also moving forward along the same path. Another world is
possible.
