Part Two: Proposals and Projects

2. ON PRODUCING A SUMMARY OF ALLIANCE
PROPOSALS
We have to ensure that all new and old
Allies obtain a collective vision of all the Alliance’s
work to date, which has to be re-assessed. The following
projects are proposed to produce global and collective
summaries of Alliance proposals, helping to put such
proposals into practice:
Project
for every workshop to rework its proposals from a
cross-cutting point of view, by reading other Proposal
Papers and establishing how they are related to their own
(example: mountain forum).
Projects
to set up several summarization teams for the proposals,
using several methods and procedures, helping in 2003 to
create overall views of the Alliance’s proposals.
Project
to stimulate participation in the “Forum for the
Cross-evaluation of Proposals for a Responsible, Plural and
United world”, with a meeting for those who
have assessed a large number of proposals - so that every
Ally reads, evaluates, comments on, and improves the
proposals in the nearly 60 Alliance Proposal Papers and
breakthroughs. Besides being a participatory manner of
producing a summary of Alliance proposals, it could also
contribute to the 2004 WSF.
Project
for the members of the Forum for the Cross-evaluation of
Proposals to associate with each text the analytical maps
that have been produced, as another way of providing an
overall view.
Project
for every Ally to assess and comment the “Agenda for
the 21st Century,” a summary of proposals
drawn up by Pierre Calame. Considering the complexity of the
document, could be done through the "delibera"
system : www.delibera.info
Project
to edit a summary of the Alliance to be contributed to the
2004 WSF, based on different summarization projects: working
online and with a final meeting of the Allies who showed a
high level of participation (e.g. by assessing at
least 75% of the texts proposed in the cross-evaluation
forum, etc.). This final meeting could take place in India,
a week before the 2004 WSF, and would also be used to
prepare the presentation of the summary at the forum itself.
This meeting would be attended both by Alliance members with
clear responsibilities, and by people taking active part who
either are concerned with specific problems or are working
in several areas. In any case, they will be people who have
prepared for the meeting beforehand using the common methods
proposed.
“Young
People for a New Earth” Project, inviting teams of
young people to take part in articulating the proposals of
the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd WSF, and of the Alliance.
With the support of different foundations, the idea is to
create an cross-cultural competition, with the teams
presenting the best proposals travelling to India and
presenting them at the 2004 WSF. This project could involve
youth and student groups. Nova-Cis is coordinating this
initiative on a specific Web site : www.nova-terra.org
The "30 x 30"
Project: a specific, attractive method to draw up summaries
would consist in defining collectively the 30 new rules and
30 new alternatives to the 30 rules governing neo-liberal
globalization. Between April and July, 2003, an
initiative of the UNESCO Chair at the Universitat
Politècnica de Catalunya will be inviting 500
organizations, according to the geocultural proportions
established in Lille and the UNESCO Chairs established
worldwide, to work on the following questions: 1. the data
justifying a change of model; 2. the proposals for new
rules, and 3. identification of the campaigns and actions
that could be used worldwide to change things. We will see
how we can integrate the Alliance’s proposals.
